I am sure my situation is typical. One morning I woke up and noticed that my penis was curved and was so upset that I went back to bed assuming that it was nothing more than a very bad dream. In a state of shock, I visited a number of physicians and given the same depressing news. No treatment was available for the active phase and I should come back after 12-18 months for surgery. The surgery would correct the curvature, but I may lose penile sensation, develop severe ED, etc. My next step was searching the Internet for cures. All I came across were ads for very expensive and medically worthless herbal treatments. There had to be a source of objective medical information and review of findings. However, there was not! I decided to create this website as therapy for myself and to help other men in my situation. Other sites and forums are very helpful for men with our disease. However, as far as I know, this is the only site where the author expends the effort and considerable expense to obtain the complete articles (not the short abstract) that appear in scientific journals. I do not ask for any financial assistance in preparing this site, but do request reader feedback so I can determine if my articles are of any value and to obtain information from readers about their treatment so this information can assist the wider PD community. Unfortunately, I have failed in this matter. No matter how much I plead, reader feedback is minimal. Even those men to whom I provide assistance fail to make any effort to submit feedback.
A businessman from Germany inquired about medications to treat his PD and I told him about Trental. All I requested was some feedback on how he responded to this treatment – No feedback
Another younger reader who was recently diagnosed with PD, wrote me in a state of panic. I give him some advice on what to ask his urologist and suggested some conservative treatment. He pledged assistance with this site in terms of making it more professional as his field of expertise was IT, but again no feedback. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Some very few men did take the time to write thoughtful responses to my article. To those men, your comments were appreciated.
I wrote about the increased incidence of PD after prostate cancer surgery. If this isn’t important news, I don’t know what is. At the time of my first report, the PD and prostate cancer link was limited to very few medical journals. It was certainly something men would not hear from the average urologist performing a Prostatectomy. Still, reader feedback was essentially zero.
The last issue contained blockbuster information. ED drugs result in considerable penile scarring. I have not seen this mentioned anywhere in the popular press and only came upon this information by accident. I requested reader feedback and only one man bothered to respond. I receive many inquiries about the Xiaflex trials, but absolutely no one currently in the drug trial has bothered to send me any information on how they are doing. I do not know if we are all beaten down because of this humiliating impairment or it is due to man’s natural passivity. Without decent feedback, this website can't be an effective advocate for men with our disease.
This current edition of the site will remain online for about 3 months and then I will terminate the site. I wish all of you the best of luck.
