Virtually every urologist will state definitively that Peyronie's Disease (PD) is
due to penile trauma which results in scar formation.  Just Google Peyronie's
and many websites will appear stating trauma is the cause of PD.

A series of studies by Dr. Javaad Zargooshi at the Department of Urology,
Kermanshah, Iran raises serious doubts about this causation theory.  In
some Middle Eastern regions, men engage in a recreational activity known as
taqaadan, which in Kurdish, means to click .  In this activity, the top half of an
erect penis is bent forcefully, while the rest of the penis is held stationary. The
“thrill” of this activity is a satisfying popping noise similar to cracking your
knuckles.  In Western Iran, this practice is unusually common and increasing
in popularity, with the result being a large number of penile fractures.

In the July 2004 Journal of Urology, Dr. Zargooshi reports a study which
included 193 surgical cases of penile fracture, plus 150 cases of a long
history of
taqaandan and 50 additional cases of PD.  None of the men who
had a penile fracture developed PD.  Only 1 long term practitioner of
taqaanadn had PD, but no penile fracture.

In the December 2008 edition of The Journal of Sexual Medicine, Dr.
Zargooshi once again discussed the outcome of
taqaadan.  Between April
1990 and May 2008, 373 men presented with features suggestive of penile
fracture.  Three Hundred sixty two underwent corrective penile surgery.  Over
90% had fibrotic nodules, but generally there was an excellent return to
sexual function.

Dr Zargooshi conclusion raises the salient point about the connection
between penile trauma and PD and I will essentially quote the doctor. Severe,
acute trauma of penile fracture and moderate, chronic buckling injury of
taqaadan are not associated with later development of PD.  These findings
question whether the hypothesis that trauma, trauma induced smoldering
inflammatory cascade and aberrant wound healing are the main causes of
PD.  Alternative, plausible, evidence based explanations should be sought for
the etiology of PD.  Any theory on the etiology of PD should provide an
explanation for the total lack of occurrence of PD following the trauma of
penile fracture.
