This is a chart in Dr. Kim's article that outlines the process by which prostate cancer surgery may lead to PD like changes:
In the 2009 edition of Current Urology Reports, an article reviews and discusses adverse changes resulting from both RPs and corrective PD surgery. According to the authors, although the pathophysiology is likely to be different, post RP, some men develop penile shortening that may resemble the same process as seen in PD. Approx 41% of men with erectile dysfunction post RP surgery have penile fibrotic changes and decreased elasticity. As noted in the last edition of this website, a case study review published in Medical News Today revealed that 17% of men who underwent a RP developed PD like symptoms.
I have one major complaint about the studies and articles noted above. To men, their penile dimensions are very important. This includes both length and girth. Unfortunately, penile shortening is discussed, but the issue of girth is always omitted.
